RIFC’s Jojea Kwizera called up to National Team

Smithfield, RI – Rhode Island FC midfielder Jojea Kwizera has been called up to the Rwanda Men’s National Team for African World Cup Qualifiers.

He is the second RIFC player to ever be called into international duty by a FIFA Member Association.

Rhode Island FC midfielder Jojea Kwizera has been called up to the Rwanda Men’s National Team for African World Cup Qualifiers.

Jojea Kwizera, 25, will join Rwanda from June 3rd to June 11th while the nation takes place in the Second Round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying.

This is Kwizera’s first ever call-up to the Rwanda Men’s National Team.

He was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to a Rwandan Father and DR Congolese Mother.

In January of 2024, Kwizera joined Rhode Island FC for the remainder of the 2024 USL Championship campaign.

Since his arrival, Kwizera has made 10 appearances (752 mins) where he has zero goals and zero assists with 1 yellow card.

Prior to joining RIFC, Kwizera had spent time in USL League Two and Major League Soccer where he appeared for the Ogden City and CF Montréal

He was drafted 15th overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft.

Kwizera and The Rwanda Men’s National team are set to face Benin (Jun. 6) and Lesotho (Jun. 11) in the third and fourth matches of Group C play. Winners of each Group will automatically qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Rhode Island FC (1-7-3, 9 pts. in USL Championship) are away to Hartford, Connecticut to face Eastern Conference side Hartford Athletic (4-0-6, 12 pts.) at Trinity Health Stadium. The match kicks off on Saturday, June 1 at 7:00p.m. on ESPN+.
