Mets Offense Explodes For 10 Runs, 14 Hits in Friday’s Win
It’s funny how two days can shift a narrative surrounding a team. Since their team meeting on Wednesday, the Mets have won two games in a row against the National League Champion Diamondbacks, winning by one run in both games.
However, on Friday night, it was the Mets lineup that fueled the victory. They scored 10 runs in total, including four in the first inning that allowed Luis Severino to start from scratch after putting the Mets in a 3-0 hole before taking a swing.
It was a 14-hit effort from the Mets’ lineup, which saw every single player record a hit. It was the sixth time this season the Mets have recorded at least 14 hits in a game, the last coming on May 18 in the Mets’ 10-9 loss to the Marlins. The Mets are now 5-1 in games where they record at least 14 hits.

Out of the 14 hits, the most important came off the bat of Starling Marte in the first inning. He ripped a bases-clearing triple to tie the game at 3-3, allowing the Mets to eventually take the lead before the end of the inning. Marte had another huge night for the Mets, and finished the night with four RBI.
Marte’s hit was huge, but all of them ended up consequential by the end of the night. The Mets entered the ninth with a 10-5 lead, but ended up winning 10-9. Every run counted in Friday’s victory. Here’s a recap of the individual performances at the plate from Friday:
Individual Performances From Friday
Marte led the offense with a 2-for-4, four-RBI night that included a three run triple in the first that tied the game. The other RBI came from a single in the fourth.
Mark Vientos continued his hot streak with a 3-for-5, 2-RBI night that included RBI singles in the first that gave the Mets the lead over the Diamondbacks, and in the fifth to extend the Mets’ lead to 8-4.
Francisco Lindor, who collected four hits on Thursday night, collected two more on Friday with an RBI double in the second and a single in the fifth.
J.D. Martinez hit another massive home run on Friday, propelling his new club to vicotyr. It was an opposite field, loud two-run home run in the sixth that made it a 10-5 Mets’ lead. It was his fifth home run of the season.
Pete Alonso hit an RBI double in the fourth to add to the Mets’ offense success. It was his second double in as many nights, and Alonso seems to be fine after being hit on the hand.
Since their Wednesday team meeting the Mets’ offense has 23 hits and 13 runs scored. Just as players can slump, teams can collectively get into a slump as well. Sometimes a reset button needs to be hit to come through. For the Mets, Wednesday appears so far to have been that reset. Friday was the first time since May 6-7 that the Mets have won two games in a row.
