CT man dies after being stabbed, brought to hospital in private car

Police are investigating the death of man who was brought to a hospital with stab wounds and then died.

The man was initially reported to have a gunshot wound but police said they later learned he had been stabbed.

The man was brought to Yale New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael’s Hospital campus on Chapel Street, just after 1 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Yale Protective Services notified the New Haven Police Department that a walk-in victim had been brought to the hospital in a private car. The victim, identified as Travis James, 47, off New Haven, had been stabbed.

James was unresponsive and in critical condition and he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Officers then learned that James had been at Sam’s Mart on Whalley Avenue when he got into an argument with an unknown individual, police said.

“The altercation escalated, and James was stabbed. He was then driven to the hospital,” police said.

Detectives responded to the hospital and Sam’s Mart to process both scenes,” police said.
