Foster The People formed as a US-based indie pop band towards the end of the 2000s decade and have enjoyed a head of success as a group.

Their huge hit Pumped Up Kicks was initially a sleeper hit after it took almost 12 months to find its way to the top of the global charts.

It sold a whopping 1.8 million copies and being certified three-times platinum despite only peaking at number 18 on the UK Singles Chart in 2011.

Frontman Mark Foster has now reunited the band for the first time in three years but with just one fellow member on board – Isom Innis.

Mark Pontius and Sean Cimino both departed the group over the three-year break which saw them without a major record deal for the first time since their breakthrough.

Now a duo, the band signed a deal with Atlantic Records to fund the release of their brand new single, Lost in Space.

Their new single release comes just weeks ahead of a long-awaited fourth album from the group, titled Paradise State of Mind.

The record will encompass their ever-unique blend of light indie music mixed with classic pop and folk traits but will also take a heavy influence from music of the seventies.

Speaking about the concept of the upcoming release, Mark Foster said: “The record started as a case study of the late Seventies crossover between disco, funk, gospel, jazz, and all those sounds.

“It was such a beautiful moment in time, when these different styles of music were cross-referencing each other – artists like Nile Rogers and Chic, the Tom Tom Club and Giorgio Moroder.”

He continued: “I wanted to dive into that and figure out what they were doing.

“I was also thinking about how that era has musical and social parallels to the time that we’re in now, with the giant recession in the Seventies, the political turmoil post-Vietnam, and other major tensions.

“But then you see these expressions of joy happening through music, and I started thinking about joy as an act of defiance.”

40 year old Mark has seen his personal life flourish after marrying an A-list Hollywood star.

Having been engaged for just eight months, Mark wed Ozark actress Julia Garner in December 2019.

Their wedding took place in a court house in a ceremony that Julia described as “intimate”.

She told Vogue magazine at the time: “We went back and forth from having a big wedding to eloping in Vegas.

“We ultimately decided to get married at City Hall in New York City, just like my parents did 40 years ago.”
