‘Murdered’ personal trainer Amie Gray’s wife attends court as Nasen Saadi, 20, appears charged with killing her
THE wife of a “murdered” personal trainer in Bournemouth watched on as the man charged with the killing appeared in court.
Sian Gray bravely attended Poole Magistrate’s Court this morning as Nasen Saadi, a 20-year-old man from south London, appeared.
He has been charged with the murder of her wife, Amie Gray, and the attempted murder of a second woman, Leanne Miles.
“Loving mum” Amie, 34, was killed during a horror attack on Durley Chine Beach in Dorset, at 11.42pm on May 24.
The fatal stabbing has shocked the country, with police arresting the alleged stabber on Tuesday.
Leanne – aged 38 and also from Poole – was also taken to hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the stabbing and has since been discharged.
Saadi, from Croydon, dressed in grey sweatshirt and trousers, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.
He gave no indication of plea to the two charges and was remanded in custody.
Saadi was arrested at an address in Croydon, south London, on Tuesday.
Detectives from Dorset Police obtained a court extension for further time to interview him before charging him with murder and attempted murder on Friday evening.
After charging Saadi, Detective Superintendent Richard Dixey from Dorset Police’s major crime team said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of Amie Gray, as well as the woman who was seriously injured, and they have been updated with this latest development in our investigation.
“This matter has been the subject of an extensive investigation.
“The case will now be the subject of active court proceedings and it is vital that the justice system is allowed to follow its course.
“It is also important to stress that there should be no further commentary or sharing of information online or on social media that could potentially prejudice these court proceedings.”
Dorset Police have also stated there will be ‘enhanced’ patrols over the weekend and going forward.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Lyne said: “I would like to thank our communities in and around Bournemouth for their support and patience through what I know will have been an unsettling week for many.
“Our thoughts remain with the family of Amie Gray and the survivor of the incident on Durley Chine Beach on Friday 24 May 2024.
“The closure of the beach around Durley Chine will have affected many local people, visitors and businesses and I don’t underestimate the inconvenience caused as a result.
“Many police officers and staff have not only been involved in the investigation throughout the last week, but also have maintained a highly visible presence in the town to answer any questions local people have had and try to be as accessible as possible at a time of heightened concern.
“It has always been our intention to keep our communities as informed of developments as quickly and effectively as possible throughout the week both via local media and face to face when out on patrol.
“I appreciate the public want to and indeed should be given information to allay fears and concerns. That is balanced against maintaining the integrity of a highly complex investigation, which has moved at a pace throughout the week.
“Hopefully, Dorset Police has struck that balance to maintain public confidence as much as possible, accepting there is still significant work to be done with partners across the town to ensure public safety is maintained as a paramount concern.”
