Goals for Greatness gifts Albany High School with new nets

Goals for greatness was started by lacrosse great Paul Rabil. On Friday he gave some new goals to Albany High School

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Goals for greatness was started by lacrosse great Paul Rabil. On Friday he gave some new goals to Albany High School in conjunction with Citylax and showed them how to use his signature crank shot.

“The future of this game had to do with goals on the field like baskets on courts and hoops," Rabil said. "So, that’s the commitment we’ve made to resource that year over year, brick by brick.”

Albany High School Lacrosse head coach Jessica Brooks believes the impact of this donation will benefit the student-athletes who visualize a future with lacrosse and Rabils presence motivates them to keep going.

“I think they see what it can do for them and lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in our country and it gives them a lot of opportunities outside of college," Brook said. "It’s so nice to have that partnership to get the goals as well to give more opportunities for our city to embrace the sport and have opportunities to play the sport.”

With each passing year, more kids nationwide are introduced to the fastest game on two feet.

“My friends introduced me to lacrosse and I just thought it would be exciting to get more into the sport, meet people who are into it," said Citylax competitor Finola Krawczynk. "Just like see what it’s about.”

Sports have the power to bring people together. Lacrosse is no different but to some athletes, it offers a particular niche.

“It’s unique and not many people play it so having a talent in lacrosse is like having something very special and unique,” said Citylax athlete Eleanor Knoderbane.

Albany freshman Reece Henry believes Rabils donation will help elevate his game and create more interest around the Albany community.

“It’s definitely great being that there’s not a lot of places around Albany that you can just shoot at. On your own free time so it’s great to have these donated here," Henry said." Adding new goals, giving people some advice on how to play good, it will definitely boost the growth of the game.”

For Rabil and the PLL, lacrosse equals community.

"Credit to just the larger community here in Albany New York for their commitment and interest and continued investment in lacrosse," Rabil said.
