Postecoglou is confident that ‘real heroes’ will emerge at Spurs next season
Ange Postecoglou believes that we will see a much more confident and assured Spurs side next season and suggested that some new heroes will emerge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
A fifth-place finish would have to be considered a success for Postecoglou in his first season in charge when one considers the state of the club when the Australian took charge last summer.
However, the way the wheels came off towards the end of the campaign would be a real concern for some Spurs fans, with some question marks being raised over whether Tottenham’s system has been found out a little.
However, Postecoglou insisted that he always anticipated many challenges in implementing his style of play in his first campaign at N17 and insisted that the team’s progress should not be overshadowed by the poor finish.
Reflecting on his first season in charge, the Tottenham boss told The Standard: “One of the primary reasons I was brought in was to change the football and I think most people would agree that it has changed.
“I also knew we’d have some massive challenges in my first year, and we’ve had that as well. I think I have a really good handle now, having gone through good times and the adversity, of what it’s going to take to get to the next step.
“I’m pretty confident we’ll see our football on a more consistent basis, a lot more confident the group will able to sustain our levels of performance. For a lot of our players, this is their first year in the Premier League, or the first time here at Tottenham.”
Postecoglou wants to see a new crop of Spurs heroes
The 58-year-old confidently asserted that some members of the current Spurs squad will acquire a real hero status over the next couple of years.
He added: “It’s been a challenging year and it might get skewed a little with the way the season’s finished, but I think we’ve had some memorable times, some fantastic games at the stadium, some unbelievable finishes, stuff fans will remember for a quite a while and they were a big part of that, the supporters with the atmosphere they created, it’s no coincidence we scored so many late goals because of the atmosphere they created in the stadium.
“From what I’ve seen this year, they are going to get some real heroes to follow in the next couple of years. That’s important for fans, it’s not just about the team, they want players they want to worship, and I can see quite a few in this group making a real impact at this football club. I think the supporters will enjoy watching that happen.”
