Six years in prison falls far short of justice | READER COMMENTARY
I read the article about the sentencing of Aaron Brown for his part in the mass shooting at Brooklyn Holmes last summer (“Fourth of five charged in Brooklyn Homes mass shooting has pleaded guilty,” May 29).
It absolutely amazed me that the 19-year-old pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder (he was originally charged with seven counts of that) along with another charge of attempted first-degree murder and was sentenced to 60 years, with all but 12 years suspended in both cases, and the sentences will run concurrently. Then you further learn that under Maryland law, Brown can be eligible for parole in just 6 years. That is less than one year for each attempted murder.
My issue here is with the prosecutor and a judge who let this happen. Maybe it is time to drain the swamp in the legal system in Baltimore. You can bet that this type of justice is one more reason for people to abandon the city.
