Syracuse-Buffalo Game Cancelled After Injury, Jiman Choi Granted Release

The Syracuse Mets’ and Buffalo Bisons’ game was cut short due to a very scary scene. Bisons’ catcher Payton Henry required medical assistance after being hit with a swing follow-through in the bottom of the seventh inning. Henry was transported to a local Syracuse hospital, where he was alert and responsive. No further information has been released as of Friday night.

The Syracuse Mets and Buffalo Bisons concluded in the seventh inning after a head injury to the Bisons’ catcher, Payton Henry. A Pablo Reyes backswing hit Henry in the back of his facemask and was promptly attended to by trainers from both teams. After being strapped to a backboard, Henry was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Bisons announced Friday night that Henry was “alert and appropriately responsive.”

Syracuse quickly fell behind in the opening frame after Spencer Horwitz and Orelvis Martinez‘s RBI knocks. The Mets would score four unanswered runs, led by Jiman Choi’s solo home run in the fifth inning.

Hamel took a step in the right direction in his outing Friday night. After allowing two early runs, Hamel settled in and managed trouble the rest of his time on the mound. While his walks are still high and strikeouts are low, the Dallas Baptist alum will continue to limit runs while dealing with baserunners.

Drew Smith threw a perfect inning in his fourth rehab (fifth total) start with Syracuse.

It was announced on Thursday that the Mets granted Jiman Choi his release from Triple-A Syracuse. He is no longer in the Mets organization and is an unconditional free agent.

Double-A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (25-22) 2, Harrisburg Senators (29-20) 7

The Rumble Ponies were dominated in their Friday night matchup against Harrisburg. The offense managed only three hits, two of which from Nolan McLean. McLean drove in the Ponies’ only runs of the night, the second being his first home run in Double-A.

Binghamton’s pitchers did not have much run support, making the score look much worse than the actual gameplay. Before Gervase entered in the ninth, the collection of Stuart, Santos, and McLoughlin allowed three runs and seven hits, giving Binghamton a chance in the game.

Trey McLoughlin has given up only two earned runs the entire season, the last being on April 19th.

Brooklyn’s offense faltered against Jersey Shore Friday evening – the Cyclones’ only offense came from Stanley Consuegra’s two-run homer, his third in the past seven games. The rest of the Cyclones combined for four hits and three walks.

He allowed three BlueClaws runs (one unearned) and only struck one Jersey Shore batter out. It was his first time giving up two or more earned runs since his April 18th start against the same Jersey Shore team.

After just one month into his professional career, A.J. Ewing has emerged as a standout prospect to follow. With an OPS above 1.000, Ewing has left league pitchers looking silly, evident in his impressive five-game extra-base hit streak.
