Aaron Civale’s 1 ER over 5.1 innings not enough as Rays record five hits

On a crisp Friday evening in the Charm City, the Rays offense started out hot. Ben Rortvedt drove an Albert Suarez offering the opposite way to left field to plate Richie Palacios. 1-0 Tampa Bay.

Aaron Civale did a great job of mitigating Orioles baserunners, as he would pitch 5.1 innings of one run ball, with that run coming on an Austin Hays RBI single to plate Anthony Santander in the bottom of the fifth frame to tie the score at 1.

In the bottom of the sixth, Baltimore would plate two more Birds as Jorge Mateo doubled to the left-center field gap to score Colton Bowser and Austin Hays. 3-1 O’s.

Jose Siri would be called out on strikes to begin the top. half of the ninth inning, argue the call, and be ejected as the Rays bats would be quieted by Craig Kimbrel collecting his 420th save to place him fifth all-time.

The Rays will go at it again with the Orioles at 4:05 PM EST, with Taj Bradley and Kyle Bradish as the probable pitchers, respectively.
