Mariners Game #59: 5/31/24, LAA at SEA
The Mariners see their final AL West division rival for the first time this year
Happy Alvin Davis Day, everyone!
That’s right, by mayoral decree, today, May 31, 2024, is officially Alvin Davis Day. The proclamation recognizes “Davis’s dedication and commitment to fostering the Seattle Mariners legacy and our Greater Seattle community.” In commemoration, Mr. Mariner himself will throw out the first pitch at tonight’s game. With it also being College Night and Country Music Fireworks Night, it’s a busy day at the ballpark.
And don’t forget: tomorrow is Pride Day at T-Mobile park! The first 10,000 fans to arrive will receive a specialty Pride trucker hat. In addition, T-Mobile customers who enter through the T-Mobile gate will get two free drinks from the Copper Bar in the ‘Pen.
Love is always in style ️

Lineups:
NOTE: There has been a lineup change for the Angels.
Nolan Schanuel is out for the Angels tonight; Rengifo moves to leadoff, followed by Moniak. Matt Thaiss takes over at DH while Willie Calhoun moves to first.
That’s right, it’s a Woo day as well! It’s Bryan’s fourth career start against the Angels, his most faced opponent. In his previous three starts, he’s only walked 3 Halos and struck out 21. As for hitting, Raley is back after sitting out last night’s loss. This allows Canzone to slide back into right and Haniger to take over DHing duties, with Garver getting some rest.
On the other side, Anaheim is sending out José Soriano, their reliever turned starter. Most interestingly, he’s got a low strikeout rate and one of the highest ground ball rates in the league. In front of a packed house, it may not be too bad of an idea for the Mariners to just try and put it in play and let the Angels melt down in the infield.
News:
The big news of today: the Mariners are parting ways with offensive coordinator Brant Brown. Read more here.
Also: Luke Raley returns to the lineup after sitting out yesterday with a sore lat. Per Scott Servais, they ran strength tests on it and he’s without limitation today. “Football mentality,” cross that one off your bingo card.
