Mike Tyson and Jake Paul Fight Postponed

0

Boxing fans have been counting down to see heavyweight champion Mike Tyson and rising boxing star Jake Paul go head-to-head in a battle for the ages this summer. But it looks like they'll have to wait a little longer.

Earlier this week, Tyson suffered a medical scare that was later attributed to an ulcer flareup. At first, the plans for the July 20 fight seemed to be moving full steam ahead, but Iron Mike just announced that the fight will have to be postponed as he focuses on his recovery.

"I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time. Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flareup, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover," Tyson said in a statement, per ABC News. “My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s and I will be back to my full training schedule soon."

He then turned his attention to his opponent.

"Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good," he told the YouTuber-turned-boxer. "I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year."

Both Tyson and Paul have been drumming up hype for their fight since it was first announced late last year. Tyson has been training hard every day for the match, though he confessed on Fox News last month that he's leaning into his fears about the fight to get even stronger.

"Anything I'm afraid of, I confront it," he said. "And that's my personality. Like right now, I'm scared to death. But as the fight gets closer, the less nervous I become because it's reality. And in reality, I'm invincible."
