Dripping Springs Library closed after lightning strikes building

DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas (KXAN) -- The Dripping Springs Library closed on Friday after lightning struck the building, which left a hole in the wall, a representative for the library told KXAN.

This happened while thunderstorms moved through the area Friday morning. KXAN's photojournalist Ed Zavala went and got a video of the damage. That video showed debris all over the ground.

Sarah Rose, capital campaign manager for the library, said the jolt damaged the HVAC system, and the library needs electrical work. She said the explosion that sent debris flying at least 60 feet across the library happened at the beginning of its busiest season.

"I can't image what the force of the blast has to have been to send stuff that far. To start the summer off this way is pretty discombobulating," Rose said.

She said she hopes the library will be open next week, but no decision has been made yet.
