Local officials from the Taliban administration have announced that 21 Afghan prisoners have been released from jails in Karachi, Pakistan, and transferred back to Afghanistan.

According to the reports, these individuals were freed from Pakistani jails on Sunday, May 26.

According to the reports, these individuals had been imprisoned for 21 to 71 days due to a lack of residency documents.

Officials have stated that these individuals have been referred to the International Organization for Migration for assistance.

Previously, Abdul Jabbar Takhari, Afghanistan’s consul general in Pakistan, reported the release of 23 Afghan prisoners, including women and children, from Karachi jails.

Takhari emphasized that currently, around 40 Afghan prisoners remain in the jails of Sindh province.

According to Pakistani media reports, since the beginning of the deportation process, approximately half a million Afghan refugees have been expelled and returned to their country.

The dire situation for Afghan refugees in Pakistan continues to worsen, with many facing harsh conditions and limited access to basic necessities.

The forced deportations amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan have left many refugees in a state of uncertainty and vulnerability, exacerbating the challenges they face both in Pakistan and upon their return to Afghanistan.
