Over 35s

On a glorious sunny Sunday afternoon, we ventured to Willow Park Wodonga to take on Heart on their home turf. There was a last-minute change in personnel as Bonners needed the entire day to do gardening at his resort, so he was unable to make the 3 pm kickoff.

In the first half, we played some good football in patches, but to Heart’s credit, they repelled our assault on their goal time after time, just like Cindy Lauper’s song. But us boys just want to have fun, and Milky’s great header got us the lead going into the halftime break.

The second half started with a brilliant Heart counter-attack, and they leveled the score. We didn’t panic and continued to improve our passing game throughout the second half. Doug put on a clinic as right wing back, with his continuous work and supply into the box leading to many assists. Milky managed to get his hat trick of headed goals before his fourth, when he was superbly played through by Brad and calmly passed it past their keeper.

Both T-Bone and Harro also got on the scoresheet after yet more assists from Doug, who rightfully took out player of the match. Shane was a force at the back, halting the Heart’s offensive threats and teaming up well with Loz.

In the end, it was a comfortable 6-1 victory for the Spurs. is life!
