Twenty five arrested after massive street fight leaves ten seriously injured
Dozens of people have been hospitalised or arrested following a major brawl in the middle of a street.
The huge fight happened at around 2pm on Saturday on Woodbourn Road in Sheffield.
Footage shared on social media showed people being attacked while laying on the ground, as the group fight spilled off the pavement and into the road.
Several people wearing high visibility jackets were seen in the large group.
A number of parked cars were also damaged during the fight.
It appeared that at least one person was using a weapon of some sort to hit someone who was lying on the ground, as another person was seen crawling out of the road and onto the pavement.
Police have now arrested 25 people on suspicion of violent disorder offences, and 22 people were taken to hospital – 10 of those with serious injuries.
South Yorkshire Police chief superintendent Simon Wanless said: ‘Officers have been working through the night at the scene at Woodbourn Road and carrying out extensive inquiries including CCTV trawls.
‘I would strongly encourage anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
‘If you were in the area around the time of the incident and have CCTV, video or dashcam footage, please get in touch.
‘You will see a heightened police presence in the area today and over the next few days.’
The force confirmed on Sunday that all 22 injured people were still in hospital, but their injuries are ‘not believed to be life-threatening’.
The road was closed by police shortly after the brawl and the cordon is still in place.
