Heart of church downsizing lies in scandal | READER COMMENTARY

The Archdiocese of Baltimore’s plan to merge 61 parishes into 23 parishes and 30 worship sites disrupts more than a century’s worth of neighborhood identities throughout the metropolitan area. It cements the permanent abdication of societal influence by the Catholic Church (“Catholic archdiocese’s final plan will cut Baltimore parishes from 61 to 23,” May 22).

The blame for Catholicism’s ruin can be laid at the feet of pedophile priests and their enablers who sinned with abandon for decades, destroying the lives of their victims.

God, perhaps, will forgive them.

I will not.
