Amari Evans, a four star in the class of 2025 out of Overtime Elite, has been a key factor in the New Heights Lightning’s 7-4 start on the Nike EYBL circuit and backed it up last weekend at the first live period.

The 6-foot-3 combo guard has been the x-factor for New Heights, doing the dirty work, rebounding and making winning plays that don’t show on the boxscore.

“It feels good to play in front of coaches for the first time this year,” he told ZAGSBLOG last weekend. “I’ve been working hard and it was time to showcase what I’ve got going on.”

“I feel like I’m a team leader and I help my team win by ways that don’t show up on the stat sheet,” he concluded.

Evans’ development has skyrocketed since transferring to the Overtime Elite League, especially in terms of getting to a college playing strength.

“I feel like [OTE] is getting me ready for college and the next level,” he said. “Physical wise, I’ve changed my body a lot since I’ve been there.”

Evans has been hearing from Pitt, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Illinois the most as of late.

Head coaches Jeff Capel (Pitt) and Rick Barnes (Tennessee) were in to see Evans last weekend. He’s taken unnoficial visits to both schools, and is currently setting up an official with Tennesse.

Evans broke down the two:

Pitt: “The relationship is going well. It’s my hometown so we got to have a good relationship, he [Capel] is doing a good thing showing love.”

Tennessee: “It’s a great relationship, they talked to me very often. He’s [Rick Barnes] just getting to know me, what I like and my game.”
