Russian Intelligence Chief: Cannot ignore what’s happening in Afghanistan
Alexander Bortnikov, the head of Russia’s intelligence service, said at the meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States that Russia cannot ignore the events unfolding in Afghanistan.
He further added that the growth of terrorist groups in Pakistan and Afghanistan poses a threat to the security of regional countries.
Bortnikov also stated at the Bishkek meeting in Kazakhstan that if foreign interventions in Afghanistan cease, the Taliban administration could establish order in the country.
Meanwhile, Sergei Naryshkin, the director of Russia’s foreign intelligence service, accused the United States and Britain of destabilizing Afghanistan and Central Asian countries.
Russian intelligence director notes that Afghanistan, like Syria, faces significant challenges from terrorist groups.
Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee head reports a growth in terrorist groups in northern Afghanistan, with Russia blaming the US and some Western nations for supporting such groups in Central Asia.
Since the Taliban’s rise to power, ISIS and other militant organizations have escalated attacks in Afghanistan and the surrounding region, posing challenges for the Taliban government.
The increased activity of these groups undermines Taliban stability, presenting a serious threat to their governance and control over Afghanistan.
The head of Russia’s intelligence service also termed the joint efforts between the Taliban government and Moscow to combat terrorism as a positive step.
Countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States have always expressed concerns about the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, but the Taliban regime emphasizes that Afghanistan’s soil will not be used against any other country.
