Labour are on the hunt for a new victory anthem to replace D:Ream’s Things Can Only Get Better

LABOUR are on the hunt for a new pop victory anthem to replace D:Ream’s Things Can Only Get Better – because it’s too Blairite.

Tony Blair made the catchy banger his campaign theme song during his victorious 1997 election campaign.

Since then it’s been the unofficial anthem of the Blairite wing of Labour, with MPs regularly belting it out on the campaign trail and on karaoke nights.

But Labour big cheeses reckon they need a new hit to usher in the Keir Starmer era if he wins the election.

One party bigwig told the Sun on Sunday: “We want a new pop anthem. Something different from 1997 and Tony Blair.

“We want to be proud of our past but carve our own future.

It comes after Sir Keir denied being a “copycat Tony Blair” after he emulated the former Labour PM by launching a manifesto pledge card on stage with his shirt sleeves rolled up.

He said: “Everybody has been trying to say which leader are you most like, who do you have secretly tattooed on the inside of your arm – it is none of them.

“Some of the things that are important about winning power are the same. It’s not copycat.

“We are 27 years on from 1997. The challenges we face are not the same as faced by Tony Blair.”

Possible new anthems:
Lucky Man by The Verve
Thank U Next – Ariana Grande
Red Flag – All Saints
Elected – Alice Cooper
