Spurs insider says the club are ‘making it known’ they want Premier League star
Tottenham insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news regarding the Spurs youth set-up, has revealed that the North London club are making it known that they want to sign Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.
Branthwaite has had an outstanding debut Premier League season at Everton and understandably, he is now thought to be on the radar of several top sides.
In fact, just a couple of days ago, The Daily Mail suggested that Spurs, Manchester United and Manchester City are all keen on securing the 21-year-old’s services.
The report added that amidst the interest from the trio, Everton are bracing themselves for offers for the centre-back, with the Merseyside club needing to sell some players to ensure they comply with PSR.
This is not the first time we have heard of Spurs pursuit Toffees youngster, with The Standard reporting earlier this month that Sean Dyche’s men are aware of Tottenham’s interest in the player and are expected to resist the North London side’s advances.
Spurs may not need Branthwaite this summer
However, Wenham has insisted that despite Spurs being fans of Branthwaite, Ange Postecoglou’s men are unlikely to move for him this summer, given the options they have in central defence.
When asked about the speculation over the Everton defender’s future, he told Tottenham News: “Tottenham are clearly making it known that they are interested. However, I can’t see that deal happening.
“Central defence is probably where we have our strongest options, whereas United are lacking quality in that position. It would make more sense for Branthwaite to go to Old Trafford, and with the figures that are being brandished, I think United are more likely to sign him.”

It would make no sense for Tottenham to spend £50m-plus on a centre-back this summer, with Postecoglou only in need of cover in the position. Spurs will likely prefer a low-cost backup so that they can spend the bulk of their summer transfer kitty on a number six, a number eight and a forward.
