Brooklyn Cruises Behind Orellana and Consuegra

0

The Mets’ farm system affiliates split their four games on Friday evening. Brooklyn easily handled the Hudson Valley Renegades as the High-A subway series continued. The Cyclones received another quality start from Douglas Orellana and a breakout performance by their bats.

Triple-A

Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (32-17) 7, Syracuse Mets (29-19) 3

BOX SCORE

The Mets battled from behind most of the game after the RailRiders put up runs in the third and fourth innings. Mike Brosseau hit his fifth homer for Syracuse, making himself an infield-depth option for the major league club.

Despite not recording a hit, Luisangel Acuña extended his on-base streak to nine games.

  • LHP David Peterson (2.79 ERA) 4 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 7 H, 1 BB, 6 K (89 pitches/65 strikes)
  • RHP Yacksel Ríos (3.05 ERA) 1 IP, 2 R (0 ER), 2 H, 2 BB, 2 K

Rehabbing David Peterson made his third start in Syracuse and was not as dominant as he had previously been during his minor league stint – allowing two earned runs on seven hits in only four innings of work.

Double-A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (23-18) 2, Reading Fightin’ Phils (18-25) 1 In 10 Innings

BOX SCORE

Binghamton squeaked by Reading in extra-innings, led by Wyatt Young who drove both of the Rumble Ponies’ runs – via a solo home run and the game-winning RBI single in the 10th inning. Young has now homered in consecutive games while raising his OPS to .835.

Tyler Stuart has been solid for Binghamton this year, posting a 3.61 ERA and an FIP of 2.73 across eight starts. Stuart struck out nine Reading batters, walking two, allowing two hits and one run in five innings. Trey McLoughlin was lights out again for Binghamton, allowing zero baserunners and striking out three in his two innings of relief.

High-A

Hudson Valley Renegades (20-20) 1, Brooklyn Cyclones (23-20) 7

BOX SCORE

Behind excellent pitching and Stanley Consuegra’s fourth-inning grand slam, the Cyclones cruised to an easy victory over Hudson Valley. William Lugo added a solo shot of his own in the sixth inning, which extended Brooklyn’s lead to 7-1.

  • RHP Douglas Orellana (1.06 ERA) 4 2/3 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 5 K (81 pitches/ 50 strikes)
  • RHP Jawilme Ramirez (5.00 ERA) 4 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 5 K

Orellana continues his impressive pitching for the Cyclones as he posts another scoreless outing. In his third appearance for the Cyclones after being called up from St. Lucie, Jawilme Ramirez held down the big Brooklyn lead and coasted through the final half of the ball game, earning the win.

Low-A

Clearwater Threshers (30-13) 8, St. Lucie Mets (14-29) 1

BOX SCORE

St. Lucie was overmatched by Clearwater in their 8-1 trouncing on Friday evening. Catcher Ronald Hernandez brought around the Met’s only run with his seventh-inning RBI groundout.

Troesser and the rest of the St Lucie staff struggled to keep the Threshers off the basepaths and the scoreboard – Mets pitchers combined to allow nine hits and 12 walks to Clearwater.
