'I'm lucky to be alive': Temple man survives after car is crushed by gas station canopy
TEMPLE, Texas (FOX 44) — Cleanup in Bell County is underway after severe storms ripped through the area.
In Temple, streets are lined with debris, trees were uprooted and power lines are down. One man is lucky to be alive after his car was crushed by a gas station canopy.
Joey Allen stopped at an Exxon gas station to avoid possible hail damage to his car. Instead, his car was crushed by the gas station's canopy.
"I thought it was maybe a trash can at first, but no, my car was being crushed. I was scared for my life," Allen said.
Miraculously, Allen survived with no scratches. This is because his car's driver's seat is on the right side—which is unusual.
"I just don't know what I'm going to do now, with insurance and everything and all the damage. It's going to be hard," he said.
