Report: Tottenham and Aston Villa both eyeing £34m-rated breakthrough star

CalcioMercato have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in Juventus star Andrea Cambiaso after his breakthrough season in Turin.

Cambiaso has come on leaps and bounds since returning from his loan spell at Genoa last summer, with the 24-year-old growing in importance for Juve through the season.

Although he is a left-back by trade, the Italian can also play further forward and CalcioMercato point out that he finished the campaign as a vital cog in Massimiliano Allegri’s midfield.

The report says that a number of clubs across Europe are attracted by Cambiaso’s versatility and his tactical intelligence, with many now tempted to make a move.

It is explained that the player’s agent met with the Juve hierarchy recently to discuss a new deal and during the meeting, the representative told the Bianconeri officials that he could bring a €40m (£34m) offer to the table for his client.

This is because the left-back is attracting interest from the Premier League, with both Spurs and Aston Villa ready to make a move for the player.

Not only can Cambiaso play in either full-back role but the fact that he is comfortable receiving the ball centrally makes him a superb fit for the inverted role in Ange Postecoglou’s system.

One can understand why Spurs would be willing to spend a decent amount to bring the Italy international through the door.
