Fabrizio Romano names PL striker as a ‘possibility’ for Spurs this summer
Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for a new striker this summer, and Ivan Toney has been earmarked as one to watch by Fabrizio Romano.
Despite Harry Kane leaving the club last summer, Spurs have still not replaced the prolific forward. Instead, Ange Postecoglou relied on Heung-min Son and Richarlison this season to provide goals.
And, provide goals they did, with the pair registering 29 goals between them this term. However, it’s clear that Spurs need more, and a new number 9 is thought to be a priority this summer (GiveMeSport).
According to ESPN, Ivan Toney is on Postecoglou’s wishlist for the impending transfer window.
However, it is believed Brentford want £60m for the striker, and that is a price Spurs are not willing to pay (GiveMeSport).
The player himself has made it clear he wants to move on, though, and even shared an emotional message with Brentford fans on social media this week, suggesting his farewell could be imminent.
Ivan Toney to Spurs is one to watch
Now, Fabrizio Romano has weighed in on the situation regarding Spurs’ hunt for a new striker, and the transfer expert suggested Toney is one to watch.
He told JD Football: “Toney is another possibility, they are looking at central strikers. Toney is a name, but not the only one, they are looking at wingers.”
Toney has just one year remaining on his current contract, and has been heavily linked with a move to one of the big six Premier League sides this summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
I think there’s no doubt that Ivan Toney would do a job for us and score plenty of goals, but I’ve just been put off quite a bit by the way he has handled the whole situation with regards to wanting to leave Brentford. Still, that Instagram post is a nice touch, so maybe he’s not all bad.
