'Jeopardy!' Chair Rule Revealed After Contestant Seen Sitting on Recent Episode
Did you know that contestants on Jeopardy! are given the option of sitting during the game?
While almost every contestant has always stood behind their podium while playing Jeopardy, fans noticed that Grant DeYoung was sitting on a tall chair during an episode this week.
Producer Sarah Whitcomb Foss discussed the chair rule during an episode of the Inside Jeopardy podcast.

“Fans have been noticing that Grant is sitting in a chair during his games,” she said (via The U.S. Sun). “This is something that we always offer to contestants. We don’t ask why; it’s not our business. If you want a chair, we’ll give it to you.”
Grant himself responded on Reddit.
“They give it if you ask,” he said. “I have some back arthritis that makes standing still for that long very difficult. I wouldn’t expect everyone who sits for Jeopardy! to disclose their reason for needing one, but I don’t mind saying mine.”
