An Ulster County jury convicted a Kingston man for drug dealing narcotics and gun charges.

KINGSTON, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- An Ulster County jury convicted a Kingston man for drug dealing narcotics and gun charges. William Mayo, 42, was charged with 11 counts, including the sale and possession of drugs and a loaded firearm during a three-day trial.

Mayo has five prior felony convictions that the sentencing judge could consider when determining the length of his sentence. In June 2022, a search warrant for Mayo's home uncovered loaded handguns and magazines, cash, and cocaine.

A maximum sentence of 15 years could be imposed because Mayo possessed a loaded firearm. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, Aug. 15. District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji said Mayo's conviction should be a message to others who endanger the community with drugs and weapons.

"I implore our young people to recognize that any amount of time spent in prison amounts to life wasted; make choices for your life and for others in our community. Do not choose prison or think of it as ‘no big deal’ – your life and freedom to be with friends and loved ones is a big deal; do not find out the hard way," Nneji said. "When all is said and done, our goal is the safety and wellbeing of our community – that means you."
