INDIANAPOLIS — Three-star guard Mike Collins of Houston Hoops was pretty much perfect to kick off Nike EYBL Session 3 against the Florida Rebels. The rising junior played just 14 minutes in the 67-65 win, but he was in the game when it mattered most down the stretch.

And what did Collins do? He iced the game, scoring Houston Hoops last four points from the free throw line. Collins finished with 12 points and was 3-of-3 from the field in the contest. For the weekend, the 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard from Shadow Creek (TX) averaged 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 44% from the field. Collins averaged 20.8 minutes per game while helping his squad to a perfect 4-0 record.

“I’m a jack of all trades,” Collins said of his game. “I can do a lot of things. I can dribble the ball very well. I can find my teammates. I can score the ball. I can rebound. I can defend. You know, whatever the coach wants to impact winning basketball I can do at a high level. Very high.”

While in Indianapolis, Collins caught up with ZAGSBLOG.com to update his recruitment. The guard said Penn State, Arizona State, Oklahoma State, George Mason and Lamar have been most in contact lately. Here is his breakdown of each school:

Penn State: “I like coach [Mike] Rhoades. He stay texting me, stay supporting me, asking me about my family, asking me how I’m doing. I just feel very welcome with him.”

Arizona State: “I love them because they text me a lot too. They show a lot of love and stay updated with my games and stuff like that. So I appreciate that.”

Oklahoma State: “They’ve been on a hot streak with me lately, talking a lot to me, making sure I feel good. They ask how I like it, what I’m doing, stuff like that.”

George Mason: “Coach [Tony] Skinn, you know. That’s my guy so I love them.”

Lamar: “Lamar is really good. Coach [Mikhail] McLean. I love coach McLean and he keeps me updated and talks to me a lot.”

No visits have been taken by Collins to this point in the process. He is looking to sit down with family to set some up. He would like to take some visits before Peach Jam and some after but doesn’t know where yet.

Collins said he is closest with coach Rhoades and his staff.

Collins is rated the No. 28 combo guard in the country per 247Sports and has three-star designation. Collins said what makes him special is the edge he brings.

“Nobody else wants to win how I want to win.”
