ESPN pundit surprised by just how good Tottenham star was this season
Frank Leboeuf has admitted that he was surprised by just how good Micky van de Ven was this season, naming the Tottenham defender in his Premier League Team of the Season.
Over the years, we are used to seeing even experienced, big-name centre-backs have some challenges in their first season in the Premier League but that has not been the case with Van de Ven, who has not put a foot wrong since arriving from Wolfsburg last summer.
What is even more impressive about that is the fact that the Dutchman essentially arrived at Spurs on the back of just one full season of regular football at the top level.
With the defender still only 23 years of age, there is now a lot of optimism at Tottenham that he could mature into one of the best in the world in his position over the coming years.
Micky Van de Ven has been a Premier League success story
Such has been Van de Ven’s impact that he was named Tottenham’s Player of the Season by the Official Supporters’ Clubs (OSC) despite spending almost three months on the sidelines.
Leboeuf named the Spurs star in his Team of the Season and remarked to ESPN: “I wanted to put van de Ven because van de Ven was a real surprise, a very good surprise for Spurs and the Premier League.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The most exciting thing about this Tottenham side is that the likes of Van de Ven, Udogie, Johnson, Sarr and others are nowhere near their ceiling and one would expect some of them to develop into world-class players over the next couple of years.
