Report: Borussia Dortmund make first contact with alleged Tottenham target
Fabrizio Romano has handed Tottenham a blow in their pursuit of Serhou Guirassy, revealing that Borussia Dortmund have now stepped up their interest in the Stuttgart star.
It has been well documented over recent weeks that Tottenham are in the market for a centre-forward this summer, with the likes of Santiago Gimenez (GiveMeSport) and Ivan Toney (ESPN) being heavily linked with a move to the North London side.
Another player who has been repeatedly mooted as a target for the Lilywhites is Guirassy, who has had an outstanding Bundesliga season, having scored 28 goals in as many league games in 2023-24.
It was reported just a couple of days ago by GiveMeSport that Spurs are considering stepping up their pursuit of the Guinea international, with Ange Postecoglou identifying him as a cheaper alternative to the club’s other striker targets.
The report claimed that Tottenham are particularly to the striker due to his £15m release clause, which means that he would potentially cost less than half of the other names on the club’s wishlist.
Borussia Dortmund are interested in Serhou Guirassy
However, Spurs might have to act fast if they hope to land Guirassy, with Romano now revealing that Dortmund have made contact with the striker’s entourage ahead of the summer window.
The journalist said on Daily Briefing: “There has been interest from England, Italy and elsewhere, but what I can say now is that Borussia Dortmund are seriously working on this deal.
“They’ve made contact on the player side and they consider Guirassy one of their top targets for the summer transfer window. Still, we will have to understand the budget for Dortmund because they also want to sign Ian Maatsen from Chelsea and negotiate for Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I think it would be a big mistake if Tottenham allowed Dortmund or other clubs to have a free run at Guirassy. The Stuttgart star would be in Spurs’ reach even if the club were to decide against selling Richarlison.
I do not think it would be a bright idea for Spurs to shell over £40m on Gimenez, who remains unproven at the highest level.
