Trump Offers Unconvincing Reason Why He Didn’t Testify at Hush-Money Trial
Donald Trump on Wednesday provided his reasoning for not testifying at his criminal hush-money trial—despite claiming just a month ago that he “absolutely” would.
On Tuesday, Trump’s attorneys rested their defense in the case against the former president, who faces 34 felony counts for falsifying business records related to a $130,000 payment to keep porn star Stormy Daniels quiet about their alleged affair. Trump, however, did not end up testifying.
In an interview on WABC Radio, Trump echoed what has become a daily refrain, claiming he didn’t take the stand because of the judge handling the case. The judge, Juan Merchan, has repeatedly been forced to keep Trump in line, including threatening the former president with jail time after issuing a series of fines for violations of his gag order.
