He added: “Now I’m walking into Buckingham Palace like a wet dog with mud on my feet.”
The winners had been announced on Tuesday by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly — but Ant, 48, missed the party because of the birth of his baby with partner Anne-Marie Corbett.
Dec, also 48, joked: “He’s got a week-old baby he’s breastfeeding, or helping with.”
Charles, 75, laughed and said: “Please give him my regards.”
The King also shared a joke with Love Island star and basketball player Ovie Soko.
Looking up at the 6ft 7in hunk, he said: “You don’t even have to jump.”
Other stars at the event included Kate Garraway, Martin Freeman, Paralympian Ellie Simmonds, Pixie Lott and Penny Lancaster — who told the King hubby Rod Stewart was going on tour again.
Celebs Go Dating host Anna Williamson told Charles, who is having treatment for cancer: “It’s lovely to see you looking so well.”
The awards recognise young people who have succeeded against the odds, improved their chances in life and had a positive effect on their local communities.
