Revolution II fall 3-1 versus Philadelphia Union II

FOXBOROUGH, MA— The New England Revolution II (3-1-5, 11 pts.) were defeated 3-1 versus Philadelphia Union II (5-3-1, 20 pts.). on Sunday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Oulette Stadium in Hookett, New Hampshire.

The team started their lineup in a 4-3-3 formation with goalkeeper JD Gunn starting in the net with a backline of (left back) Moshtaba Al-Hasnawi, (center backs) Eric Klein and Hesron Barry, along with (right back) Damario McIntosh. The midfield consisted of Luka Borovic (left), Lucas Maciel (center), and Patrick Leal (right). The forward roles were manned by Malcolm Fry (left), Alex Monis (right), and Marcos Dias (central) as the lone striker.

First team player Malcolm Fry started the match while Joshua Bolma began the match on the bench.

Defender Santiago Suarez was suspended for tonight’s match due to a red card in last weeks match.

Today’s match was coached by Marcelo Santos. Head Coach Richie Williams was away at his daughter’s graduation ceremony.

The match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and immediately launching it into the Union’s defensive third.

Philadelphia had the first chance of the match in the 1st minute when forward #25 Chris Donovan’s shot was deflected away for a corner kick.

New England’s first chance came in the 7th minute when the early through-ball was cleared by goalkeeper #25 Andrew Rick.

The Union had yet another chance in the 11th minute when Hesron Barry cleared away a cross into the area that managed to strike the crossbar.

In the 23rd minute, Revolution II midfielder Malcolm Fry was issued a yellow card for fouling #38 Giovanny José Sequera.

From the freekick, it was headed on by defender #39 Francis Westfield, but his effort went just wide.

In the 33rd minute, Union forward #25 Chris Donovan had a spectacular chance when his right-footed strike struck the right-post and out.

A long through-ball, which was deflected, gave forward #25 Chris Donovan a break-away that led him to take a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner for the 1-0 advantage.

The Union had yet another chance in the 49th minute when #88 Kyle Tucker’s shot was met with a catch save by goalkeeper JD Gunn.

In the 56th minute, Revolution II forward Alex Monis was issued a yellow card for complaining to the official after not getting a call.

Just 3 minutes later, in the 59th minute, Revolution II head coach Marcelo Santos made his second and third changes of the match by replacing Moshtaba Al-Hasnawi and Luka Borovic with Joshua Bolma and Gevork Diarbian.

In the 63rd minute, New England leveled the match.

After collecting the ball in midfield, Damario McIntosh played the ball centrally to Joshua Bolma, who then found Alex Monis for the shot. The shot was deflected, and the rebound fell to Marcos Dias for the finish. This was New England’s first shot on target.

In the 66th minute, Union II head coach Marlon LeBlanc made his second and third changes of the match by replacing midfielder #22 Sanders Ngabo and forward #77 Edward Davis with defender #42 Carlos Augusto Rojas Torres and midfielder #45 Leandro Soria.

Defender #56 Christopher Olney crossed the ball into the area to find forward #25 Chris Donovan for the header into the bottom right corner for the 2-1 advantage.

Less than 1 minute after the goal, Union II forward #25 Chris Donovan was issued a yellow card for fouling Alex Monis.

In the 79th minute, Union II defender #42 Carlos Augusto Rojas Torres was issued a yellow card for grabbing Damario McIntosh.

Just 2 minutes later, entering the 81st minute, the Union added to their lead.

From the corner kick delivery by midfielder #56 Christopher Olney, the ball was found by defender #29 Olwethu Makhanya for the goal.

Following the goal, Union II head coach Marlon LeBlanc made his fourth and fifth changes of the match by replacing midfielder #88 Kyle Tucker and forward #25 Chris Donovan with midfielder #43 Alex Perez and defender #58 Gavin Wetzel.

In the 83rd minute, Revolution II forward Marcos Dias was issued a yellow card for complaining to the center official about a no-call.

Entering the 87th minute, Revolution II head coach Marcelo Santos made his final change of the match by replacing Damario McIntosh with Steban Lopera.

After the 90+5 minutes, Philadelphia held on for the 3-1 victory.

With the result, New England fall to 12th in the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Standings.

Richie Williams and the New England Revolution II (3-1-5, 11 pts.) remain home to face Eastern Conference side New York City FC II (3-2-3, 12 pts.).
