ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) - May is National Stroke Awareness Month. High blood pressure is a major risk for stroke, and nearly 40% of women have high blood pressure, or are taking medications to keep their blood pressure under control.

According to the Mayo Clinic Health System, women have a higher risk of having a stroke than men. It is also the fifth leading cause of death for women, and each year twice as many women die from stroke than they do from breast cancer.

In this week's Women's Health Wednesday, we're sharing insight to the signs and symptoms, and what you can do to improve your chances of avoiding a stroke.
