Harford Community College inducts 9 student-soldiers into SALUTE honor society

Harford Community College inducted nine members into the SALUTE National Honor Society during its inaugural ceremony on May 8. SALUTE is the first national academic honor society established for student veterans and active military in two-year and four-year colleges and universities. SALUTE stands for Service Academics Leadership Unity Tribute Excellence.

2024 SALUTE inductees include Ryan Brown (U.S. Army, veteran), who is majoring in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity; Angel Carrion (U.S. Army, veteran), who is majoring in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity; Rodney Carter (U.S. Coast Guard, retired), who is majoring in History; Logan Davis (U.S. Marine Corps, veteran), who is majoring in Information Technology and Cybersecurity; Terrence Gibson (U.S. Army, retired), who is majoring in Business Management; Mary Heath (U.S. Navy, veteran), who is majoring in Paralegal – Legal Studies; Alfredo Lepe (Air National Guard, active duty, deployed), who is majoring in General Studies; Patton Ligon (U.S. Marine Corps, veteran), who is majoring in Information Assurance and Cybersecurity; and Lakisha Smith (Army National Guard, active reserve), who is majoring in nursing.

To be considered for induction, a student (veteran or active military member) must be an undergraduate who has earned a minimum 3.0 grade-point average and completed 12 credit hours. Each chapter symbolizes the commitment as a group to recognize and honor the service and the scholastic achievements of active military and veteran students.

SALUTE was formed in 2009 by the Colorado State University Veterans Office with a Success for Veterans grant funded by the American Council of Education and the Walmart Foundation.
