Albany man charged with alleged bomb threat at St. Pius
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Colonie Police Department announced the arrest of an Albany man in connection to a bomb threat investigation. Joshua Campbell, 28, was charged with two counts making a terroristic threat.
On May 19 at 8 p.m., Colonie Police were made aware of a voicemail claiming that explosives had been placed at St. Pius Church on Upper Loudon Road. Responding officers extensively searched the church and the St. Pius School and determined that both buildings were free of any dangerous or suspicious items.
Police say a similar threat was made to the Planet Fitness on Albany Shaker Road from the same phone number as the first call. The gym was also found to have no explosives within after a thorough search.
The ensuing investigation by Colonie Police resulted in Campbell being identified as a suspect of the threats, leading to him being arrested on Monday afternoon. After conducting a search at Campbell's home, police determined that no evidence was found that would indicate Campbell had taken any direct actions toward carrying out the threats, and no explosives or bomb making materials were located at the residence.
Campbell was arraigned at the Colonie Town Court. He was held on $30,000 cash bail pending a preliminary hearing.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Colonie Police Investigations Division at (518)783-2754.
