ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Columbia County Habitat for Humanity started a new home construction on the grounds of the Capitol in Albany on Tuesday. Volunteers, partner families, and staff joined state legislators to begin framing the walls of what will become a new home in Niverville in Columbia County.

Officials said that this home is the first of its kind. It's a new design concept that's made to be sustainable and affordable for families.

"We are in the midst of a huge affordability crisis in the Hudson Valley and Albany County, and these homes are designed to be affordable for the average wage or lower income worker," Al Ballenchia, Chief Exec. of Columbia Greene Habitat for Humanity, said.
