A man was arrested Monday and charged after a spate of recent vandalism incidents at businesses in Waterbury, police said.

Detectives identified a suspect as 53-year-old Erik Cruz of Waterbury in connection with incidents that occurred between May 17 and May 20 at various businesses throughout the city, according to the Waterbury Police Department.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants charging Cruz for allegedly slashing tries and graffiti at two Waterbury businesses, police said. Cruz was taken into custody on Monday and charged with second-degree criminal mischief and three counts of third-degree criminal mischief, according to police.

Police said Cruz was also served with a violation of probation warrant at the time of his arrest.

Cruz was arraigned in court on Tuesday and remains in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Correction on a $50,000 bond, according to police.

Detectives are currently investigating additional incidents involving graffiti and tire slashings, police said. Additional arrests are expected.
