Opelousas convenience store owner charged with selling drugs out of his store

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- The owner of an Opelousas convenience store has been arrested after allegedly selling marijuana and illegal cannabis products out of the store, authorities said.

Ahmad Salaheddin Hassan, 38, of Opelousas, is charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, three counts of illegal possession of a firearm in the presence of drugs and one count of transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.

According to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, detectives obtained information from a confidential source that the "One Stop" business located at 731 E. Landry Street in Opelousas was selling marijuana and illegal THC vapes.

Detectives were able to obtain a narcotics search warrant for the business, and found 76 3.5-gram bags of marijuana, 14 psilocybin mushroom bars, 9 THC vapes, 3 firearms and $9,352.85 in cash, officials said.

Authorities said Hassan arrived on the scene while detectives were in the process of searching and was taken to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Safety Complex, where he was joined by his attorney. Hassan fully cooperated with detectives and admitted that all the illegal narcotics belonged to him, officials said. 

Hassan's bail is set at $26,500.
