Man Utd duo could lose FA Cup final starting spot after flop display vs Brighton - opinion

Manchester United duo Sofyan Amrabat and Scott McTominay could miss out on an FA Cup final starting spot after poor performances against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Goals from Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund helped United beat Brighton at the Amex Stadium in the final Premier League game of the season.

Man United lacked intensity as Brighton dominated the midfield with ease. The clash was even initially but the hosts grew into the game.

However, two United players produced disappointing displays – Amrabat and McTominay.

The Scotland international wasted United’s best chance in the first half, blasting his shot wide when Bruno Fernandes threaded a perfectly weighted through ball in a counter-attack.

McTominay had another chance to find the net later in the game but failed again.

Fernandes is expected to take his number 10 spot back when United meet Manchester City at Wembley Stadium.

McTominay could come on as a substitute if Ten Hag wants more attacking support in the second half.

Amrabat shone against Newcastle United but struggled at Brighton.

The midfielder lacks the agility required for the Premier League, which became glaringly obvious as Brighton consistently pressed him whenever he had the ball.

He was dispossessed nine times in his 69-minute display. He won only one of his five duels and failed to make a tackle.

Statistics are not everything, but these numbers do not reflect well on a holding midfielder.

With centre-backs returning from injury, Casemiro is expected to move back into midfield with Kobbie Mainoo supporting him against Man City.
