Man Utd hit new low as they set unwanted record for the first time in Premier League history

MANCHESTER UNITED hit another new low as they set an unwanted record for the first time in Premier League history.

The Red Devils endured a dismal campaign under Erik ten Hag as they finished eighth on Sunday, their lowest-ever position in the top flight.

United ended the campaign with just 18 wins from their 38 games, including a final day 2-0 victory at Brighton.

And they also recorded a goal difference of -1, their worst total in 34 years.

As a result, United will not be playing in Europe next season unless they can muster a miracle and beat Man City in the FA Cup final.

But they also set another new unwanted record on Sunday.

For the first time in their Prem history, the Red Devils finished behind another team with ‘United’ in their name.

Newcastle United came seventh in the table, one place above Ten Hag’s men.

The last time they finished behind another ‘United’ was in 1992’s First Division when Leeds United came out on top.

And fans were quick to react to United’s latest low point.

One said: “Eras come to an end.”

Another declared: “United in shambles. Retire the word.”

One noted: “More of a damning indictment on the other United’s if anything.”

Another added: “Not the best Manchester, not the best United, harsh times.”

Ten Hag will now be looking to save the season, and potentially his job, by leading United to victory over City at Wembley this weekend.

He said: “It’s fantastic. A cup final. Such a great event. As a kid, you want to take part in this and get a look at it.

“Everyone is really excited to lift this cup. We still have a good opportunity, going to the final is a huge achievement and, if you’re in a final you want to win.

“It’s all about trophies and we have an opportunity to lift the cup.

“It’s all about winning trophies and, as a result of it, we need to be in Europe and it is our last opportunity.”
