The crash occurred in bad weather conditions in East Azarbaijan Province as the President was returning from a visit to Azerbaijan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed condolences, highlighting Raisi's contributions to the India-Iran relationship. World leaders also offered condolences, with former Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif Khansari expressing grief over the loss of his successor and President Raisi.
