A WOMAN has revealed that she fell in love with a 63-year-old man, after meeting him on a sugar daddy website.
Nova Hawthorne, 29, met James five years ago through a sugar daddy site, where she was sharing “spicy” content.
A sugar daddy is an older man, who gives a younger woman expensive gifts and money, in exchange for his company.
James showered Nova in gifts of jewellery and clothes, and even invested £210,355 in her business.
Nova, from Melbourne, Australia, said that although she initially fell in love with his money, she grew to fall in love with him.
The pair have now taken their relationship from a transactional arrangement to being a proper couple.
However, Nova said she is often mistaken for an escort when the duo are out together.
Speaking to the Love Don’t Judge Youtube channel, James said: “I had a number of sugar babies before me and Nova met – I just find it a straight forward way of meeting people.
“Nova was pretty quickly a soulmate.
“It was a matter of weeks before we graduated from sugar-ing to boyfriend and girlfriend.”
Nova added: “Pretty quickly, it just started to feel like two people who like each other, living together, who have genuine affection toward one another.
“And one day I said to him, ‘I think I really do love you’ and he said: ‘I was never going to say it first.
“It always had to come from you.”
James said that their unconventional relationship leads people to stare at them, and take pictures.
However, Nova enjoys the attention.
She said: “I find it exciting when we are going out together as I know people are going to look.
“I’ll make myself look extra nice or wear a really short skirt or a little dress – so if people are looking that’s something to look at.”
Nova said that the couple are often faced with scepticism over their relationship, but insisted their love is real.
What is a sugar daddy and how does the relationship work?
A sugar daddy is a generous older man who spends lavishly on his mistress, girlfriend or boyfriend.
He’s often a businessman, who considers himself too busy for conventional dating – and isn’t short of a few bob.
A sugar baby, meanwhile, is normally an attractive younger woman who can’t afford her luxury lifestyle.
The couple will usually establish a financial agreement early on – as well as their boundaries, such as whether or not they’re considering a sexual relationship.
Some sugar babies ask for a monthly allowance, while other get ‘expenses’ in the form of glam holidays and shopping sprees.
While a growing number of sugar babies are university students, who turn to their ‘daddy’ to pay their fees.
She said: “The biggest one is that it is not a real relationship – that James is providing me with finance and I am providing the sugar in return.”
James added: “Most of the doubts have been about if there is a genuine affection there or whether it was just for money”.
Nova admitted that her friends and family expressed concerns about the relationship, as they suspected she was only with James for his money.
However, she insisted that their love is “authentic”.
A close friend of the couple, Mia, told Love Don’t Judge that she initially thought the pair resembled a father and daughter.
However, she has now come around and said: “I like the dynamics [between the couple] and you are genuinely happy and understand each other. Love is love.”
