State media in Iran have reported the deaths of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and his accompanying delegation following the identification of the location of the plane crash carrying the country’s president.

Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, confirmed the deaths of several high-ranking officials, including Ibrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, in a report published this morning Monday, May 20.

Earlier, the IRNA news agency had reported the identification of the location of the crash of the plane carrying Iranian officials and stated that inspection teams had been dispatched to the site.

According to Tasnim’s report, Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, Al-Hashem, the Friday Prayer Leader of Tabriz, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the Foreign Minister of Iran, Malek Rahmati, the Governor of East Azerbaijan, and the accompanying delegation were killed in the plane crash.

It is worth mentioning that the helicopter carrying “Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi” crashed yesterday, Sunday, May 19, after the inauguration of the “Qiz Qalasi Dam” on the way to the inauguration of the “Tabriz Refinery Quality Enhancement Project” in the forested area of Dezmar between the villages of Uzi and Pir Davoud.

Earlier, Tasnim news agency reported that since the initial report of the President’s helicopter incident, Red Crescent Relief Forces and auxiliary military and law enforcement units have initiated extensive search efforts.

Meanwhile, the officials cited poor visibility due to dense fog as the cause of the crash. In a televised address on IRNA’s Telegram channel, Vahidi stated, ‘Various rescue teams are en route to the location, but due to the foggy and unfavourable weather conditions, it took some time for them to reach the helicopter.’
