Christian Scott Faces First Rough Outing of His Career

0

After two strong outings in which he struck out six and eight batters respectively, Mets’ right-handed pitcher, Christian Scott faced his first rough outing of his career on Friday evening against the Miami Marlins.

Scott gave up four runs on seven hits, one walk, a home run, and struck out just three batters in four innings of work on Friday against Miami. Of his pitches thrown on Friday, he did not appear to use his sweeping slider as much as he did in his first two starts and didn’t seem as sharp overall either. He threw 84 total pitches (55 for strikes) in a short Friday outing.

The second inning is where the game began to get away from Scott. He gave up two singles, a sac fly, and a three-run home run to Nick Fortes to give Miami a 4-0 lead early. That is the second home run Scott has given up (he gave up one on May 11 against the Braves as well).

The home run has been Scott’s kryptonite the whole season. In Syracuse, the righty gave up seven homers in just 25 1/3 innings. The home run Scott allowed on Friday was the second in 16 2/3 major league innings.

He ran into trouble again in his fourth and final inning of work, but showed fight and grit. After Jeff McNeil allowed a runner to reach on an error, Scott gave up a single and a walk to load the bases but was able to get out of the inning without giving up a run.

With the Mets offense quiet and shutout, Scott was credited with Friday’s loss and fell to 0-2. His ERA also increased to 4.32 over three games pitched this season.

Scott spoke with the media following his outing. He said he struggled to execute in the zone and noted that as one of the biggest factors in his Friday night struggles.

“I need to execute better in the zone, especially in deeper counts,” said Scott. He also said he needs to do a better job getting his slider down and making more quality pitches.
