Minor League Recap - Dayan Frias Grand Slam Secures Akron Win

Columbus Clippers (17-25) - AAA
LOU 7 - COL 4
The Columbus Clippers fell to the Louisville Bats (CIN) Friday night.
RHP Tyler Beede, recently assigned to AAA after clearing waivers, made the start for the Clippers. He threw 2.2IP, 3H, 4R, all earned, 1BB, and 1K. In his 2 games with Columbus he has a record of 0-1, a 7.71 ERA, and a 1.07WHIP.
RHP Eli Morgan came out of the bullpen in the top of the 3rd to get the final out in the inning. Eli pitched 2.1IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, and 1K. RHP Conner Gillispie finished the night for Columbus, pitching 4.0IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, and 5K.
Clippers offense finished the night with 4 runs on 7 hits, 1 error, and 5 left on base. Daniel Schneemann started the scoring for the Clippers in the bottom of the fourth. His single scored Juan Brito. Dom Nuñez doubled to right field in the bottom of the 5th, scoring Jhonkensy Noel. Nuñez would then be brought home on a single off the bat of Micah Pries. The Clippers final run came in the bottom of the 9th. A 2-out RBI double from Myles Straw scored George Valera. Unfortunately the Clippers were unable to rally. Their record falls to 17-25.
Akron RubberDucks (24-13) - AA
ALT 3 - AKR 6
RHP Tommy Mace had a great start in Akron. Getting the win, he improved his record to 5-1. Mace threw 7.2IP, 6H, 2R, both earned, 1BB, and 5K. In 46.1IP, he is currently sporting a 1.94ERA and a 0.93WHIP.

Both Akron bullpen pitchers delivered strong outings to support Mace’s quality start. LHP Erik Sabrowski threw 0.1IP with 1K. RHP Andrew Walters closed the evening for the RubberDucks with 1.0IP, 3H, 1R, earned, 1BB with 1K.
Akron’s offense produced 6 runs on 4 hits all in the 1st inning. Altoona Curve (PIT) started the bottom of the 1st with 2 walks to Akron hitters. Aaron Bracho struck out for the 1st out and Alexfri Planez lined out for the 2nd out. Then the next 3 batters also walked, scoring 2 and leaving the bases loaded for Dayan Frias. Frias hit a no doubt grand slam.

Lake County Captains (21-16) - High A
LC 4 - LAN 8
The Captains fell to the Lansing Lugnuts (OAK) Friday night. RHP Austin Peterson was beat up by the Lugnuts, going only 2.2IP, giving up 10H, 7R (all earned), 0BB, and only 1K. Alaska Abney took the reins in the 3rd inning. He gave the Captains 2.1IP allowing no hits, no runs, and only 2BB with 1K. RHP Jake Miller also went 2.1IP, but gave up 3H, 1R (earned), 2BB, and 0K. RHP Jay Driver closed out the game throwing 0.2IP of scoreless and hitless baseball.
In 10.2IP, Driver currently has a 0.84ERA and a 1.22WHIP.
Nate Furman delivered immediately to start the momentum for the Lake County offense. Furman hit his 2nd leadoff home run of the season.

A couple of errors on Lansing’s defense scored 2 more runs in the top of the 4th. Another error would score C.J. Kayfus in the top of the 7th, but the Captains couldn’t tack anymore on and fall to 21-16 on the season.
Lynchburg Hillcats (20-16) - Low A
Game 1
DEL 0 - LYN 4
Alanzo Richardson dominated in Game 1 of Friday night’s double header. The Hillcat righty threw a shutout 7IP, only giving up 1H with 3Ks.
Ralphy Velazquez singled in the bottom of the 1st, scoring Esteban Gonzalez from 2nd to put the Hillcats on the board. In the bottom of the 6th Jaison Chourio hit a sac fly, scoring Lexer Saduy. The final 2 runs of Game 1 came off the bat of Angel Genao. Genao hit the first pitch he saw for a 2 run homer.

Game 2
DEL 1 - LYN 0
The Shorebirds (BAL) had their turn for a shutout in Game 2. The Hillcats pitching held strong until the bottom of the 6th where righty reliever Reny Artiles gave up a sacrifice fly to score the game’s sole run.
Lynchburg offense couldn’t really put anything together - with only 3H and 3BB. The sole highlight from Game 2 is this amazing catch from Esteban Gonzalez.
