Two dogs were found dead inside a “densely packed” Canoga Park home after Los Angeles city firefighters put out a fire Saturday morning, May 18, authorities said.

A third dog was found alive and cared for by firefighters, LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

Firefighters were called to the 21700 block of West Napa Street just past 7:15 a.m. and arrived to find a single-story home with heavy smoke showing, Humphrey said.

Firefighters began an offensive attack and forced entry into the 1,320-square-foot structure and found heavy fire in one room at the southwest coroner of the home, Humphrey said.

The flames extended into the attic, but firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about 30 minutes, the spokesman said. They then searched the house and found the three dogs.

Three adults live at the home, but were not there when the fire broke out Humphrey said. No injuries to firefighters were reported.

The cause and origin of the fire were both under investigation.
