Pundit reveals why Spurs should be happy about Ange Postecoglou’s outburst
Former Chelsea defender Scott Minto has said that he understands why Ange Postecoglou was frustrated after Tottenham’s loss against Manchester City, with the Australian trying hard to bring a winning mentality to the club.
As expected, the atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was quite subdued on Tuesday and there were even images of a few Spurs fans celebrating City’s goals.
Spurs gave an excellent account of themselves against Pep Guardiola’s men and could have come away with the win if they had seized the big moments.
However, Postecoglou was not a happy man after the 2-0 defeat, stating in his post-match press conference that he had seen evidence in the days leading up to the clash that the foundations both inside and outside the club were fragile (Football.London).
It is fair to say that the statement did not go down well with Spurs fans, many of whom felt that it was a case of the Aussie coach not understanding what the rivalry with Arsenal meant to the supporters.
Ange Postecoglou has a winning mentality
When asked about Postecoglou’s comments, Minto told Premier League All Access podcast: “Do you know what, even though I don’t think Ange did it in quite the right way, I actually love what he’s representing.
“People were talking about Spurs going to throw the game, and it was funny, pictures of Spurs fans in a half-Spurs, half-City shirt, doing the Poznan when City scored, and clearly, he got riled by that fan at the very end. But the fact he’s gone so far that way tells me really that that’s exactly what Spurs need.
“Don’t care about anyone else, don’t care about the rivals. I completely understand from a fan’s point of view, they don’t want Arsenal to win the title, but from Ange’s point of view, he’s trying to instil a winning culture here, and where it could be seen as a little bit too much in your face and he could’ve done it in a softer, he literally does not care.
“It is all about Spurs, it is all about winning, and if you look below and beneath his words, his meaning, it’s just what Spurs need.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I personally did want Spurs to win against Man City but I can completely understand why some Tottenham fans’ priority was stopping Arsenal from winning the title.
For Ange to refer to that as a sign of fragility was completely bizarre. However, one can understand why he would have been frustrated at the fact that fans did not do their part to push the side on and those feelings boiled over after the game.
