BBC Breakfast fans are used to seeing Charlie Stay, 61, hosting the show at the weekend alongside Naga.

Since making her debut back in 2010, Naga has been a regular on the red sofa, hosting the news programme from Thursday to Saturday.

But fans hoping to kick off their weekend with the popular presenter got a shock when another face was seen hosting the show instead.

Filling in for Naga is journalist Nina Warhurst, who has also been the stand-in host since Thursday.

Nina joined the BBC Breakfast team in 2020 as the resident business correspondent.

She started her career at the Beeb working for BBC East Midlands regional news, and later switching to BBC North West.

But it was in 2018 she got her big break, when she began reporting for BBC Breakfast on a freelance basis, and became a relief presenter when regular hosts were unavailable.

Meanwhile, last week Naga left usual co-host Charlie seething as she playfully swiped at their relationship.

The two anchors were on hosting duties for Friday’s edition of the flagship BBC show.

During the show they brought viewers the latest news and across the country and around the world.

But tensions boiled over as Charlie and Naga crossed over to Morning Live to see what was coming up on the show.

As Michelle Ackerley helped her co-star Gethin Jones live on air, the 46-year-old thanked her during the link.

It prompted Naga to remark: “Awh you two are so lovely to each other aren’t you?

“Aren’t you lucky Gethin?”

As Gethin nodded with laughter, Naga then turned to Charlie in the studio and said: “We could take a leaf out of their book sometimes.”

However, the BBC Breakfast stalwart was having none of it and ignored Naga’s comments.

Keeping a straight face down the lens of the camera, he brought the show to an break.

“Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are,” said Charlie as Naga gritted her teeth.

It comes weeks after eagle-eyed Beeb viewers took to social media to comment on how ‘bored’ Charlie looks with Naga.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
