Schenectady sports club holds grand reopening after fire
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A local sports complex is celebrating a new beginning after it was damaged in a fire last spring. Sportime Schenectady held a grand reopening on Friday. They gave the public a chance to play on the new tennis and pickleball courts and check out their fitness center.
The fire happened in April 2023. Dozens of children were inside attending a school vacation week program. Everyone got out safely, but it did cause extensive damage.
"We needed new steel structures, concrete, electrical, plumbing, everything from scratch, and then the final details coming together," General Manager Sarah Sharpe said.
The facility reopened in stages last year while repairs were made. Staff members are excited to showcase the finished product.
